The company you select should have a sound reputation for honesty and attention to detail. Get references for the inspector you are looking to hire and check them out.
You should make sure the company carries Errors & Omissions Insurance, General Liability Insurance, and Worker’s Compensation as protection for both the inspector and yourself.
Ask the inspector about his/her technical background and accreditation.
Certification & Training
Make sure the home inspector has formal training and is certified to do home inspections. He/she should have extensive on-going training through Home Inspection Associations.
The inspector you hire should belong to an association for home inspectors such as the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI) or the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors (CAHPI).
